Biography

Herman Beavers is the President’s Distinguished Professor of English and Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has been teaching since 1989. His areas of expertise include African American literature, Southern Modernism, and 20th Century African American Poetry. Beavers is deeply engaged in the Creative Writing Program, particularly through an introductory poetry workshop.
