Professor Dr. Herman Philipse

Biography

Herman Philipse is an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Utrecht University, having previously held a professorship at the University of Leiden. He earned his doctorate from the University of Leiden in 1983 and has published extensively on various philosophical topics, including a critical interpretation of Heidegger's philosophy and a critique of religious reason. Philipse has been a prominent figure in the field, with several lectures and publications aimed at both academic and broader audiences. He has also contributed to research programs focused on Evolutionary Ethics, successfully guiding numerous PhD students. Despite his retirement in 2016, he continues to engage with the academic community as a distinguished professor at Utrecht, offering guest lectures and courses internationally, including at institutions in China and Australia.
