Biography

Hesham ElSawy is an Associate Professor at the School of Computing, Queen’s University. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, obtained in 2014. With a distinct research focus, ElSawy aims to develop theoretical foundations and fundamental results in modeling, analysis, and optimization of large-scale complex networks. He has prior experience as a postdoctoral fellow at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, and has worked as a telecommunications engineer at the National Telecommunication Institute in Cairo, Egypt. Throughout his career, ElSawy has been recognized with numerous academic awards such as the IEEE COMSOC Outstanding Young Researcher Award for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa Region in 2018, and several tutorial and survey paper awards from IEEE COMSOC. He has also received the Early Career Researcher Award at KFUPM for the year 2020/2021. In addition to his research, he is a senior member of the IEEE and serves as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and IEEE Communications Letters.
