Biography

Hester Lees-Jeffries is a University Associate Professor and Fellow at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts with honors at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, before becoming a Cambridge Commonwealth Scholar and beginning her PhD in 1999. From 2003 to 2006, she was a Research Fellow at Magdalene College. Hester lectures and supervises Shakespeare and Renaissance papers as well as teaching Renaissance textual studies in the MPhil program. She coordinates a program of exhibitions at the Centre for Material Texts. Her research interests include Shakespeare and early modern literature, with a particular focus on performance and visual material culture. Hester's latest monograph, 'Textile Shakespeare', published by Oxford University Press in 2025, examines textiles in relation to Shakespeare's works. She is also currently working on an introductory book about Shakespeare's Histories for Oxford University Press and has contributed to various publications and blogs related to Shakespeare studies.
