Dr. Hilary Bergsieker

Biography

Hilary Bergsieker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and both a Master's and PhD from Princeton University. Her research specializes in interpersonal dynamics and how factors such as impression management and trust influence relationships across diverse settings. Her lab, the Diversity Intergroup Relations Lab, uses various methodological approaches, including field studies and experiments, to explore how identities related to race, gender, and social class affect social cognition and intergroup relations. Dr. Bergsieker’s work emphasizes the development of evidence-based interventions aimed at enhancing trust and fostering allyship while promoting inclusion for marginalized groups, particularly women in STEM and individuals of color facing racism. Recently, she has also contributed to advancements in statistical methods for detecting demographic moderators within psychological processes, which helps refine existing theories reflecting human diversity.
