Biography

Hilda Alfaro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at Western University. She graduated with an MD from Pontificia Bolivariana University in Medellin, Colombia. After completing her residency and a cardiovascular anesthesia fellowship, she became a clinical fellow in cardiac anesthesia in 2013. In 2017, she earned a Master of Professional Education in Curriculum and Pedagogy from Western University. Dr. Alfaro's current research interest focuses on investigating pulmonary vein flow as a useful tool for determining the efficacy of lung ventilation in correlation with arterial blood gases. She has been awarded the Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine Teaching Award and has presented on topics such as minimally invasive mitral valve replacement and risk factors associated with hyperlactatemia during cardiovascular surgery. Her work at conferences includes significant contributions to discussions within the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists.
