Dr. Hima Vedam

Biography

Hima Vedam is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the Medicine and Health Department at the University of New South Wales and a Senior Staff Specialist in the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine department at Liverpool Hospital. She has played a pivotal role in establishing successful sleep respiratory failure services at Liverpool Hospital and is a dedicated researcher with numerous peer-reviewed publications. Hima is co-director of the Respiratory, Sleep, Environmental, and Occupational Health Clinical Academic Group within the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, and Research Enterprise (SPHERE). Her research primarily focuses on the assessment and management of obstructive sleep apnea and hypercapnic respiratory failure, with her doctoral thesis examining the links between obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease. She has received a postdoctoral research grant to extend her doctoral work and is currently involved in various research projects assessing screening tools for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea, particularly in super-obese patients. Additionally, Hima serves on clinical committees and has contributed to updating clinical guidelines and prescription practices for treatments involving CPAP and oxygen therapy.
