Biography

Hiroshi Mashimo is an adjunct assistant professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a Chief Gastroenterology at VA Boston Healthcare System. He obtained his A.B. degree from Harvard College and both his M.D. and Ph.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a medical internship and residency training along with a gastroenterology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. His interests are mainly focused on molecular physiology, especially in gastrointestinal motility and the roles of mediators such as nitric oxide synthases and vasoactive intestinal peptides. Dr. Mashimo has significant involvement in clinical research and has trained numerous gastroenterology fellows, contributing to the development of the Motility Training Program in gastroenterology. He has published extensively in medical journals, been actively involved in education through teaching, mentoring, and organizing courses, such as the Harvard CME course on gastrointestinal motility disorders. Dr. Mashimo also participates in multidisciplinary meetings related to swallowing and motility disorders.
