Earning an MFA from New College of California, Hoa Nguyen has written five full-length books: Trees Last, Red Juice: Poems 1998-2008, Violet Energy Ingots, Thousand Lose Treasure. The latter was a finalist for the National Book Award, the Governor General’s Literary Award, and the Kingsley Tufts Award, and a winner of the Canada Book Award. Nguyen was named in 2021 as one of the “Best Poetry” by CBC Books, Globe Mail, NPR Books, Library Journal, and Entropy Magazine. In 2017, Nguyen became an active member of She Who Has No Masters, a collective of Vietnamese South East Asian diasporic transnational non-binary writers, and serves as a founding mentor for the mentorship program. The collective engages with themes of diaspora, marginality, and refugee-immigrant subjectivity. Nguyen's critical writing has appeared in Canadian Literature and was nominated for the Neustadt Prize for Literature, a renowned international literary award.
