Dr. Hoang Vo

Biography

Dr. Phong Vo is a Senior Research Fellow at Macquarie University and holds a Chancellor’s Research Fellowship at the University of Technology Sydney. He previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, focusing on advanced environmental engineering initiatives related to hazardous pollutants remediation and sustainable resource management through waste valorization. Dr. Vo has been actively involved in ARC projects for PFAS remediation, collaborating with academic and industry partners to validate technologies such as foam fractionation and ion exchange resins. His PFAS research emphasizes treatment performance in contaminated water systems. With a strong interdisciplinary background, he leads innovative projects aimed at recovering critical rare earth elements from industrial waste streams, including steelmaking slag and electronic waste. His research integrates bioleaching and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to enhance selectivity and efficiency in circular economy applications. Dr. Vo has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and has an h-index of 22. He is an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Hazardous Materials and the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering. Passionate about translational research, Dr. Vo actively collaborates with government and industry stakeholders to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world implementation, particularly in PFAS remediation and critical minerals recovery.
