Hoi-eun Kim is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, specializing in social cultural history with a focus on modern Europe and modern East Asia. Her research interests include the interactions between Germany, Japan, and Korea during the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly exploring how medical doctors served as transnational agents in the formation of knowledge and empire-building. Kim's significant work, 'Doctors Empire: Medical Cultural Encounters in Imperial Germany and Meiji Japan' (University of Toronto Press, 2014), investigated the 'Germanization' of medical education practices in Meiji Japan from 1868 to 1912. Her post-doctoral research has received support from several prestigious organizations including the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the Academy of Korean Studies, and the German Academic Exchange Service.
