Dr. Holly Everett

Biography

Holly Everett is an Associate Professor cross-appointed to the School of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Master’s and Ph.D. from Memorial University. Her research interests revolve around belief, material culture, music, occupational folklife, popular culture, and tourism. Dr. Everett has served as the English Language Book Review Editor for Material Culture Review and has been involved with the editorial board of Shima: International Journal of Research on Island Cultures. Her work appears in reputable journals and publications such as Contemporary Legend, Journal of American Folklore, and Folklore Historian. She authored 'Roadside Crosses: Contemporary Memorial Culture', published by the University of North Texas Press, which explores roadside memorials. Dr. Everett's contributions to the field include chapters in significant texts such as the Oxford Handbook of American Folklore and Folklife. Her selection of publications highlights the intersection of culinary tourism and cultural practices, documenting Newfoundland and Labrador’s unique folklife and its reflections on society.
