Holly Snape joined the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow as a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in January 2020. Her main research project focuses on understanding the relationship between the Chinese Communist Party and government. Prior to her appointment at the University of Glasgow, she worked at the Beijing School of Government, Peking University, where she was affiliated with the Research Center on Chinese Politics. During her time there, she studied Chinese political discourse and the role of the political system. Holly received her PhD from the University of Bristol, where she spent four years conducting doctoral studies in collaboration with scholars from Tsinghua University's NGO Research Center. At the NGO Research Center, she became actively involved in their research while also undertaking her own projects related to grassroots NGOs working on issues such as migrant worker rights, HIV/AIDS, and environmental protection. Holly continues to have a strong interest in 'civil society' within the People's Republic of China's one-party system, and has come to realize the importance of examining the relationship between the state and society in the context of this political structure.
