Biography

Dr. Najjaran is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, where he also leads the Advanced Control Intelligent Systems (ACIS) laboratory. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2002. His research focuses on the analysis and design of mechatronic control systems with broad applications including unmanned ground and aerial vehicles and industrial automation. Over the past decade, he has worked with students on multiple aspects for the safe and reliable operation of robots, employing artificial intelligence, computer vision, and machine learning techniques. His extensive publication record includes 80 journal papers, 100 conference papers, and 4 book chapters, as well as holding 2 patents. Dr. Najjaran has been invited to speak on applications of AI across various industries, such as next-generation robotics in manufacturing and medical imaging tools in healthcare. He advocates for Industry 4.0 and actively collaborates with Canadian companies and German partners in research efforts.
