Biography

Hong Hu is an Assistant Professor at the Pennsylvania State University College of Information Sciences and Technology. He received his Ph.D. in System Security from the National University of Singapore in 2016 and holds a B.Eng. in Information Security from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, obtained in 2011. After completing his doctorate, he has worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and a Research Scientist at Georgia Tech. His research primarily focuses on system software security, specifically the detection of critical program vulnerabilities and the development of robust defense mechanisms such as control-flow integrity. His work has been published in top-tier security conferences including IEEE Security and Privacy, USENIX Security, ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security, and the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium. Throughout his career, he has received several honors, including the ACM CCS Paper Award in 2019, the ICECCS Paper Award in 2014, the ACM CCS Reviewer Award in 2022, and the NSF CAREER Award in 2024.
