Professor Qian received a B.A. in Astrophysics from Peking University, China, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oregon and Caltech, focusing on biophysical chemistry and mathematical biology. Before joining the University of Washington, he was an assistant professor in Biomathematics at UCLA School of Medicine.
