Biography

Hongbin Zhan is a Professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University, where he holds the Dudley J. Hughes '51 Chair. With extensive experience in groundwater hydrology and environmental geoscience, his research encompasses fundamental processes in flow and transport in geological formations. His specialized interests include the interactions between aquifers and surface water bodies, both connected and disconnected; the effects of non-Darcian flow on anomalous transport; and the complexities of unsaturated-saturated flow transport problems. His work also delves into advanced methods such as radial dispersion in push-and-pull tests, and the analysis of geothermal energy production and storage. Zhan’s academic contributions have earned him multiple awards, including the Fellow title from the American Association for the Advancement of Science and several excellence awards in research and teaching from Texas A&M University. He completed his PhD in Hydrology/Hydrogeology and has an educational background in physics from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University of Science & Technology China.
