Dr. Honghu Liu

Biography

Honghu Liu is a Professor and Chair of the Section of Public Population Health at UCLA School of Dentistry. With over 20 years of experience in study design, data analysis, and statistical modeling, he has conducted extensive research across various topics in medicine, dentistry, health services research, and public health, resulting in numerous publications. He teaches study design and biostatistics and advises Ph.D. students on their dissertations. His research interests include methodologic background, research design—particularly clinical, epidemiologic, and health services research—sample size and power analysis, statistical design, and data statistical analysis. Liu is particularly interested in HIV research, focusing on antiretroviral medication adherence, its measurement, and the relationship between adherence and virologic and clinical outcomes, as well as substance abuse related to HIV. His interests extend to oral health, including the measurement of oral health and the creation of oral health item banks, and exploring the relationships between oral health and systemic diseases such as HIV, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
