Dr. Honglak Lee

Biography

Honglak Lee is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist at LG AI Research. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Stanford University in 2010 under the guidance of Professor Andrew Ng. His research interests focus on machine learning applications in artificial intelligence, particularly deep learning and representation learning. Lee aims to develop methods for learning abstract representations of data that capture hierarchical compositional structures. His work encompasses a range of related topics, including graphical models, optimization, and large-scale learning, with specific applications in computer vision, audio recognition, robotics, text modeling, and healthcare. Lee has received numerous accolades, including the Sloan Research Fellowship in 2016 and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2015. He is recognized as a leading figure in his field, contributing to advances in AI technologies and methodologies.
