Biography

Professor Hongqi Sun is an ARC Future Fellow at the University of Western Australia and a member of the ARC College of Experts. He serves as a Board Director for the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia and as a Delegate for the Australia-USA Hydrogen Research Partnerships. Renowned for his specialization in novel catalysis utilizing nanostructured materials, he focuses on solar-to-chemical/fuel conversion and environmental remediation. With over 300 journal papers authored and more than 40,000 citations, Professor Sun has achieved an h-index of 109 as of September 2024. He was recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in 2019 and has received multiple grants to establish a significant international research presence. Honored as the Mid-Career Scientist of the Year at the WA Premier’s Science Awards in 2023, he is also listed among the Top 40 Australian Research Superstars in 2020. His expertise aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals on energy, environment, and various research areas including hydrogen production technologies, solar energy, catalysis, nanomaterials, wastewater treatment, lithium, and biomass.
