Dr. Hongye Zhang

Biography

Hongye Zhang received a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 2015 and 2018, respectively. He also earned a Diplôme d’ingénieur from École Centrale de Lyon, France, in 2018, followed by a PhD in Applied Superconductivity from the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2021. He was awarded six IEEE Council Superconductivity Graduate Study Fellowships in 2021. Currently, he is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) focusing on Superconducting and Cryogenic Electric Machines at the University of Edinburgh, and serves as a Research Associate at the University of Manchester. Zhang's research encompasses the design, analysis, and testing of superconducting and cryogenic electric machines, numerical modeling, superconductors, hydrogen energy, and artificial intelligence. He is a Board Member of the European Society Applied Superconductivity (ESAS), a Technical Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, and involved in various committees and editorial boards. His work aims to advance low and zero-emission technologies and contributes to the development of efficient next-generation propulsion systems for electric machines, particularly in the context of hydrogen energy applications and net-zero transport initiatives.
