Dr. Hongyin Tao

Biography

Hongyin Tao is a faculty member in the Asian Languages & Cultures Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1993. His research interests encompass a variety of areas within linguistics, including Mandarin discourse and grammar, applied linguistics, social cultural linguistics, and corpus linguistics. Dr. Tao serves as the co-editor of the journal Chinese Language Discourse and is the Executive Editor of the companion book series, Studies in Chinese Language Discourse, published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. His contributions to the field are significant, particularly in understanding the nuances of Mandarin language and its application in social contexts. Dr. Tao continues to engage in teaching, research, and publication, emphasizing the importance of language as a tool for communication and cultural exchange.
