Dr. Hongying Wang

Biography

Hongying Wang is an Associate Professor in the field of Political Science at the University of Waterloo. She specializes in Globalization, Global Governance, International Political Economy, Chinese Politics, and Chinese Political Economy. Wang received a Bachelor of Arts in International Politics from Peking University, a Master of Arts in History from Ohio University, and both a Master of Arts and a PhD in Politics from Princeton University. Her research provides theoretically informed analysis of important empirical questions and has primarily focused on the intersections of Chinese Political Economy and Foreign Policy, as well as China’s role in Global Governance and International Political Economy. She is the author of significant studies on these topics, including a key book published by Polity Press, and has also co-edited works on the rise of China in international finance. Her scholarly articles appear in leading academic journals such as Asian Survey, China Quarterly, Global Governance, and Journal of Contemporary China. Wang also actively participates in public policy discussions and serves as a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation. She has received the Mayling Birney Global Scholar award from the London School of Economics in 2024 and was a fellow in the Public Intellectuals Program of the National Committee on United States-China Relations from 2005 to 2007. Wang teaches various courses related to globalization and political economy, and advises both Master's and PhD students.
