Biography

Hongyu Sun received his MD from Tianjin University in 1997 and completed his PhD in Neuroscience at Carleton University in 2008. He undertook postdoctoral training at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School before joining the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University in 2016. As an Assistant Professor, he is actively involved in research and is eligible to supervise both undergraduate and graduate students. His research focuses on understanding how early-life experiences affect brain development and lead to long-term psychiatric and neurological consequences. Notably, his lab investigates early-life epilepsy and its effects on brain mechanisms, employing a range of techniques including electrophysiology, neuroimaging, behavioral studies, and molecular biology. Sun's work aims to decipher novel molecular signaling pathways and the critical periods of brain development shaped by early-life stress.
