Biography

Hongyu Zhao is the Ira V. Hiscock Professor of Biostatistics and also a Professor of Genetics and Statistics at the Yale School of Medicine. He obtains his B.S. in Probability and Statistics from Peking University in 1990 and earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1995. His research interests focus on the development and application of novel statistical methods to address scientific questions in genetics, molecular biology, and drug development, with a special emphasis on precision medicine. Dr. Zhao has published over 750 articles in the fields of statistics, human genetics, bioinformatics, and genomics. He has trained around 110 doctoral and postdoctoral students who have gone on to hold tenure-track and tenured positions in major universities across the United States and abroad. Dr. Zhao has served as an editor or associate editor for leading journals in statistical genetics and has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field, including the Mortimer Spiegelman Award from the American Public Health Association. His research encompasses a range of areas including genome-wide association studies, single-cell analysis, and cancer genomics.
