Biography

Horace (Wing Hei) Chan is a Research Fellow at the Stem Cells Cancer Laboratory at Monash University, led by Professor Helen Abud. He obtained his PhD in Neuroscience and Developmental Biology from the University of Melbourne. Subsequently, he joined Professor Abud's laboratory where he specializes in the study of intestinal stem cells in colorectal cancer using organoid models. Dr. Chan's research primarily focuses on utilizing organoid models and CRISPR/Cas genome editing techniques, as well as live cell imaging, to investigate the molecular mechanisms and environmental factors that regulate stem cells in normal tissues and tumors. He is particularly interested in understanding the role of regenerative stem cells in the intestines and their implications for colorectal cancer progression and drug resistance, utilizing patient-derived colorectal cancer organoids as a key research tool. His work contributes to advancing the understanding of stem cell biology and aims to improve the management and treatment of colorectal cancer.
