Biography

Hosea M. Nelson is a Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology. He completed his B.S. at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2005, and earned his Ph.D. at Caltech in 2013. In 2021, he became a Visiting Associate at Caltech and subsequently took on the role of Professor. His research focuses on developing new methods for material characterization, particularly through electron diffraction techniques that provide atomic resolution and three-dimensional structures for a wide range of analytes, including both molecular crystals and synthetic nature-derived hard materials. The Nelson lab employs advanced techniques such as automation, microfluidics, and computational chemistry, including machine learning, to achieve the ultimate goal of offering material scientists inexpensive and routine characterization methods.
