Hosea M. Nelson is a Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he has been a faculty member since 2021. He completed his B.S. in Chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley in 2005 and earned his Ph.D. from Caltech in 2013. Following his doctoral studies, he pursued postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley before joining the faculty at UCLA in 2015. Prof. Nelson's research program is dedicated to developing enabling technologies for chemical synthesis. His group has two primary research avenues: the structural chemistry subgroup, which is working on novel electron microscopy techniques to characterize complex molecules that are difficult to analyze with conventional methods; and the synthetic subgroup, which focuses on developing new chemical reactions for the efficient and rapid synthesis of bioactive compounds.
Most Caltech graduate programs are PhD-only. GRE General and Subject tests vary by department; many have made them optional or no longer accept them.
