Professor Dr. Hossein Hassani

Biography

Dr. Hossein Hassani is an Assistant Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University specializing in the areas of Embodied AI, Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, Vision Language Models, Machine Learning, Large Language Models, and Autonomous Vehicles. He leads the automotive mechatronics research group, focusing on applying algorithmic systems to autonomous vehicle technologies. His recent research includes the development of vision-language-action (VLA) models aimed at enabling end-to-end autonomous driving while prioritizing safety and reliability. Dr. Hassani's professional intent is to make safe and effective autonomous systems a reality for users by integrating advanced AI technology sustainably. With a wealth of expertise in deep reinforcement learning and large language models, he has previously held research positions at Western University and the University of Windsor before his current role at TMU. Throughout his career, he has aimed to create accessible, small yet powerful AI models that facilitate broader adoption of cutting-edge technology in real-world applications.
