Biography

Hossein Kassiri received his B.Sc. degree from the University of Tehran, Iran, in 2008, followed by an M.A.Sc. degree from McMaster University in 2010, and he completed his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2015. His doctoral research focused on the design, development, and validation of wireless battery-less neural recording and stimulation systems aimed at monitoring and treating neurological disorders. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at York University and serves as the director of the Microelectronic Prototyping Test Center (MPT) and Integrated Circuits Systems Lab (ICSL). In addition to his academic role, he holds the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at BrainCom Inc., a company he co-founded in September 2015 that specializes in implantable brain-computer interfaces. He is recognized for his contributions to the field with awards such as the IEEE ISCAS paper award in 2016, the Ontario Brain Institute entrepreneurship award in 2015, the Heffernan commercialization award in 2014, and the CMC Brian L. Barge award for excellence in microsystems integration in 2012.
