Professor Dr. Hossein Salahshoor

Biography

Amir Hossein Salahshoor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2018, following his master's degree in Mathematics. Before joining Duke, he completed postdoctoral studies at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His research interests lie at the intersection of mechanics, materials, and structures, with a focus on developing data-driven computational frameworks to predict and control the behavior of complex material systems. Prof. Salahshoor is particularly involved in the application of advanced materials in biological systems, utilizing data-driven methods to advance understanding and engineering processes in fields like sustainability and health. His work contributes to identifying mechanistic challenges and designing innovative solutions for material and structural applications, emphasizing the interaction of mathematics with computational science. He teaches various courses on advanced topics in civil and environmental engineering, mechanics of composite materials, and continuum mechanics.
