Dr. Houra Mahmoudzadeh

Biography

Houra Mahmoudzadeh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at the University of Waterloo and the Managing Director of the Health AI Analytics Lab. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto and has completed both her M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering at Sharif University of Technology. Before her academic career, she served as the Director of the Industrial Engineering Department at a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. Dr. Mahmoudzadeh's research primarily focuses on methodology applications for large-scale robust optimization, data-driven inverse optimization, and healthcare applications. She actively collaborates with health organizations such as the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program. Her work has been published in prominent journals within the fields of Operations Research and Medical Physics, and she has received multiple NSERC grants. Dr. Mahmoudzadeh is a Senior Member of INFORMS and has held various roles within the OR/MS community, including serving on the council of the Canadian Operations Research Society (CORS), where she currently acts as Vice-President. Her research interests encompass decision making under uncertainty, data analytics, robust optimization, and healthcare operations.
