Biography

Howard Lipshitz is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on functional genomics and proteomics, particularly involving CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering and Drosophila models. He investigates post-transcriptional regulation during the maternal-to-zygotic transition in early embryos and neural lineages in the developing brain using a range of techniques, including genetics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and computational biology. Additionally, Lipshitz examines the mechanisms underlying rare human diseases linked to mutations in RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and has initiated research into the role of RBPs in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). His work often employs phage-displayed synthetic antibodies to recognize RBPs implicated in these diseases. With a commitment to unraveling the complexities of gene regulation and expression, he contributes significantly to the fields of neurodegeneration, stem cell biology, and the development of novel disease models.
