Howard Stern received his AB from Harvard University in German in 1968 and his PhD from Yale University in Comparative Literature in 1978. He has published critical essays on major literary figures such as Mörike, Rilke, Morgenstern, Benjamin, Celan, and explores themes in Concrete Poetry, music theory, and Yiddish literature. His teaching interests include German Language, Poetry Performance, Literary Translation Theory and Practice, Formalism, as well as Yiddish Language and Literature, and European Literature, focusing on authors like Homer and Dante. In addition, he engages in special projects that involve wine tasting, performance recitation, and low-technology teaching methods. Stern retired in Spring 2016 after a distinguished career in education and literature.
