Biography

Hsiao-Dong Chiang is a Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, where he has been a faculty member since 1998. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1986. Over the years, Professsor Chiang has made significant contributions to the field of nonlinear system theory and optimization, and has established himself as a leader in the research and development of practical applications in electric power systems. He is the founder of Bigwood Systems, Inc., a company dedicated to providing high-quality software solutions to the utility industry, and has contributed to numerous projects that have served clients in 45 states in the US and internationally. Chiang holds 28 patents and has authored over 480 published papers, garnering more than 17,500 citations with an H-index of 65. His innovative work includes the development of the Group-based BCU method for stability assessments in electric power systems and extensive research in nonlinear computations.
