Biography

Hsiao d'Ailly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Development Studies at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, as well as an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from the same institution and a B.A. in English from National Taiwan Normal University. Her research and teaching interests encompass community-based research, mathematics learning and teaching, motivation, cross-cultural studies, self-identity, and immigrant adaptation. Dr. d'Ailly has been actively involved in community initiatives, including serving as the president of the board for K-W Counseling Service from 2005 to 2007, and she has chaired the partners' table for the project “Multiculturalism: Helping Work,” funded by Canadian Heritage. Additionally, she played a significant role on the steering committee for “New Comers Online,” a project supported by HRDC to develop a community-based digital learning space for new immigrants in the Waterloo Region. Her contributions to the academic community and leadership roles are notable, as she has held positions such as vice-president of the Chinese Canadian Women’s Federation and chair of the SDS department for several years.
