Hua Tang is a Professor of Genetics and a member of the Division of Statistics at Stanford University. He earned his PhD in Statistics with a minor in Genetics from Stanford University in 2002. Before joining Stanford's Genetics Department in 2007, he was on the faculty of the Public Health Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center from 2002 to 2006. Tang’s research focuses on understanding the evolutionary forces that have shaped genetic variation in humans and elucidating the genetic architecture of complex traits and diseases in the context of human evolution. His laboratory develops and applies statistical methods to analyze patterns of human genetic variation, which underlie phenotypic diversity among species. He collaborates on genome-wide studies that focus on stratified admixed populations, providing unique insights into the genetic basis of complex traits and the mechanisms that lead to diverse phenotypes and varying disease risks across populations.
The Computer Science department emphasizes research potential. GRE General is currently optional but recommended for some tracks.
