Hubert Lam is an Associate Professor and Course Director of the MSc Global Health Science Epidemiology at the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division. He provides leadership in overseeing the management of the MSc course and the associated PGCert in Statistics and Epidemiology. He plays a pivotal role as a module lead, lecturer, and tutor for the Principles of Epidemiology module, and he coordinates various short courses in epidemiology and statistics. Hubert is an epidemiologist at the Clinical Trial Service Unit & Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) and has a keen research interest in utilizing large-scale population-based prospective cohort studies throughout the stages of the life course to investigate aspects of population health. He co-leads the environmental health research theme at the China Kadoorie Biobank, focusing on integrating epidemiology, exposure science, genomics, proteomics, and machine learning to conduct multidisciplinary research on the health impact of long-term environmental exposures, particularly related to household and ambient air pollution, as well as non-optimal temperatures. His research also includes examining the effects of environmental and occupational exposures on maternal and perinatal outcomes. Hubert is committed to supporting local capacity building necessary for conducting epidemiological studies in low-resource settings. He completed his BSc in Biochemistry and MPhil in Medical Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong before earning a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Birmingham. In 2015, he joined Oxford after five years as a lecturer in environmental and occupational epidemiology at the University of Birmingham. In 2020, he was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland for his significant contributions to the teaching of epidemiology in the occupational medicine community.
