Dr. Huda Fakhreddine

Biography

Huda Fakhreddine is an Associate Professor specializing in Arabic Literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on modernist movements in Arabic poetry and the complex relationships within the Arabic literary tradition. She explores the role of the Arabic qaṣīda in negotiating between foreign influences and indigenous traditions, particularly in the context of modern and traditional poetic forms, including free verse and prose poetry. Fakhreddine is the author of influential works such as 'Metapoesis in the Arabic Tradition' (Brill, 2015) and 'The Arabic Prose Poem: Poetic Theory and Practice' (Edinburgh University Press, 2021). She has co-edited the 'Routledge Handbook of Arabic Poetry' (Routledge, 2023) and has translated significant modern Arabic poetry that has been featured in reputable literary journals. In addition to her academic roles, she serves as the editor for the 'Library of Arabic Literature' and has held various editorial positions in prominent literary associations. Fakhreddine actively participates in the academic community through her involvement in the Middle East Studies Association and the American Comparative Literature Association, shaping discussions around Arabic literature and culture.
