Biography

Hugh Daigle is a Professor in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his AB in Earth Planetary Sciences from Harvard University in 2004 and completed his PhD in Earth Science at Rice University in 2011. His research focuses on the characterization of physical transport properties of rocks using a combination of laboratory experiments and numerical simulations. Specific areas of interest include methane hydrate formation, responses of marine hydrate systems to external perturbations, petrophysical measurement assessment techniques, applications of nanoparticles in subsurface engineering, and geohazard detection and prediction. Daigle aims to improve formation evaluation and production strategy designs through his work. He has received multiple awards for his teaching and research contributions, including the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Engineering Teaching in 2018 and the Outstanding Faculty Member Award in 2015.
