Biography

Hugh Simpson is a neurologist and neuroscientist with a particular interest in electrical brain stimulation for neurological disorders. He completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland and holds a PhD from the Queensland Brain Institute in Brisbane. After moving to Melbourne for advanced training in neurology, he finished clinical fellowships at the Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospitals and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. His research interests include various forms of brain stimulation such as Deep Brain Stimulation, Cortical Responsive Neurostimulation, and Non-invasive Brain Stimulation, particularly in relation to epilepsy and movement disorders. Additionally, he has expertise in quantitative EEG research and the application of machine learning and AI in neurology and neuroscience. Hugh is also interested in supervising PhD, honors, and summer student projects in related areas, contributing to the academic community while engaging in clinical activities as a visiting medical officer at Alfred Health.
