Hugo Cardoso joined the Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University in 2013 as a full-time professor. Previously, he was a researcher and curator at the National Museum of Natural History in Lisbon, Portugal. With years of lab and fieldwork experience, Cardoso specializes in physical anthropology, human skeletal biology, and bioarchaeology, with a focus on juvenile skeletons. In 2007, he became involved in forensic anthropology case consulting in both Portugal and Canada. He has also received training in epidemiology through postdoctoral studies and has been involved in research concerning anthropometric history. Cardoso earned his PhD in Anthropology from McMaster University in 2005 and was awarded the CAGS-UMI distinguished dissertation award by the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies. He is currently Co-Director of the SFU Centre for Forensic Research and heads the Juvenile Osteology – JUNO group. His extensive publication record includes research on age estimation methods for immature human skeletal remains, environmental effects on skeletal development, and various studies in forensic science.
