Biography

Professor Hugo Chapdelaine studied pure mathematics and obtained a Ph.D. from McGill University in algebraic number theory. His research focuses on number theory questions, utilizing tools and techniques from analysis, algebraic geometry, and differential geometry. His main research centers around the Stark conjecture (the archimedean version), which has remained open since the 1970s. The goal of his research aims to develop a dictionary between the systematic construction of algebraic extensions of number fields and certain values of L-functions. In recent years, he has also become interested in systemic questions related to physical flows (energy and matter) and the environment (natural resources, living beings) from the perspective of orders of magnitude.
