Hugo de Jong obtained a degree in (Applied) Physics from Eindhoven University of Technology in 1997, graduating with a thesis on quantitative measurement of atherosclerosis using MRI. He subsequently pursued doctoral research at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), focusing on quantitative SPECT reconstruction under the supervision of Professors Freek Beekman and Max Viergever, and successfully defended his PhD thesis while completing clinical training as a medical physicist specializing in nuclear medicine. He was appointed as a staff member at the Amsterdam PET Center (VUmc). In 2006, he returned to UMC Utrecht as Head of the Medical Physics group in the Department of Radiology, where he established a formal residency program for medical physics training. In this role, he combines clinical responsibilities with introducing new imaging technologies for quality assurance and driving innovation in education within the department.
