Biography

Hugo Putuhena is a Research Fellow in Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) at the University of Southampton, focusing on spatial mapping. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair at the Centre of Excellence for Intelligent and Resilient Ocean Engineering (IROE) and the Southampton Marine Maritime Institute (SMMI). His research specializes in identifying suitable marine spaces for offshore renewable energy, considering factors such as anthropogenic activities, ecology, geoscience, and met-ocean conditions. Hugo has a multidisciplinary research background and completed his undergraduate degree in Oceanography (Physical Oceanography) at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia, in 2013. He earned a master’s degree in Oceanography (Marine Geophysics) from the University of Southampton, UK, in 2015, and received his PhD in Marine Geoscience from the University of Manchester, UK, in March 2020. In September 2021, Hugo joined the University of Southampton as a Research Fellow, where he supports the research program for the Supergen ORE Hub and contributes to various multidisciplinary projects, including the NERC–Crown Estate ECOWind Benthic–Offshore Wind Interactions (BOWIE) project and the NERC-funded C-Floor project.
