Dr. Hui Cai

Biography

Hui Cai is a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Architecture, where he serves as the Executive Director of the SimTigrate Design Lab. Before joining Georgia Tech, he was the Chair of the Department of Architecture and the Director of the Research Institute of Health and Wellness Design at the University of Kansas. With a Ph.D. from Georgia Tech and extensive experience in architectural education and practice in China and Singapore, his research emphasizes a performance-driven, evidence-based design approach, particularly focusing on the interplay between culture, human behavior, and the physical environment in healthcare settings. He employs various analytical tools, including space syntax analysis and discrete event simulations, to promote healthy community design. Dr. Cai has a prolific publication record and has received numerous accolades for his contributions to healthcare research, including the Wilbur H (Tib) Tusler, Jr. Health Design Research Prize. He is recognized as a significant thought leader in the field of health facility planning and design and has been actively involved in mentoring students and driving forward research initiatives in architectural education.
