Hui Peng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. His research encompasses a range of topics within Analytical Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry. He leads a research group dedicated to addressing fundamental environmental questions through innovative interface chemistry and biology. The focus of his work lies in the development of novel techniques to overcome bottlenecks in current environmental science research. This includes addressing the limited capacity of traditional targeted chemical analysis to monitor the growing number of known and unknown environmental chemicals that are being introduced into commerce. Furthermore, he investigates the limited information available on the toxic mechanisms—specifically protein targets—of the vast majority of environmental chemicals. His current research directions include untargeted identification of novel environmental chemicals, investigation of sources and behaviors of these chemicals, and unbiased identification of protein targets utilizing chemical proteomics.
