Biography

Hui Wang has been teaching in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at York University since 2019. He holds a BEng in Industrial Management Engineering and a BSc MSc in Computer Science. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from York University in 2014, with research focused on developing exploration mapping algorithms for robotic systems. His academic excellence has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS-D, PGS-M) and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS). During his doctoral studies, he completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in the field. Before his postdoc, he worked for five years as an industry software engineer, focusing primarily on large-scale software systems, particularly in ERP engineering and database systems for the aviation sector. With 15 years of combined experience in academia and industry, Hui offers a broad practical perspective on Computer Science. His teaching and research interests span a wide range of topics, including Computer Science Education, Data Structures and Algorithms, Object-Oriented Design and Programming, Software Engineering, Web and Mobile Application Development, E-Commerce Systems, Database Systems, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotic Exploration & Mapping. Hui has led the design and revamping of undergraduate courses to align with evolving industry standards and educational practices. In his role at York, he teaches Computer Science courses and has developed online courses for international academic organizations. Hui is passionate about teaching and student engagement, approaching education with an open mind and a positive spirit.
