Biography

Hujun Yin received a BEng degree in Electronic Engineering and an MSc degree in Signal Processing from Southeast University, followed by a PhD degree in Neural Networks from the University of York. He joined the University of Manchester in 1996 as a Post-doctoral Research Associate, and was later appointed as a Lecturer in 1998, subsequently promoted to Senior Lecturer, Reader, and then Professor. He served as the Head of Business Engagement in AI and Data Science in the Faculty of Science and Engineering from 2019 to 2023. His main research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Image Recognition, and Data Analytics, with a focus on interdisciplinary applications. Recent projects have concentrated on developing deep learning-based vision systems for recycling industries and advanced machine learning for early detection of plant viral infections and cancer diagnosis. He has been elected as a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute from 2018 to 2023 and is actively involved in various scientific communities, having served as Associate Editor for prominent journals and as a chair for multiple international conferences.
