Dr. Hummy Song

Biography

Hummy Song is an Associate Professor in the Operations, Information Decisions Department and Health Care Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degrees from Harvard University. Dr. Song's research is centered on health care operations, service operations, empirical operations management, and data analytics. His work emphasizes enhancing performance in service systems, with a focus on the health care sector. Professor Song has investigated diverse factors impacting patient flow and capacity management in health care delivery, including queue configurations and team staffing. His research draws on extensive datasets originating from electronic health record systems as well as administrative databases. He has collaborated with hospitals and health care organizations in both the United States and developing countries. His studies have been published in prestigious journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, and Health Services Research, and have received coverage from prominent media outlets like The Wall Street Journal and CBS News. Professor Song has been recognized with several awards for his research achievements and currently serves as an Associate Editor for several leading academic journals.
